Finally, after plugging away at it off and on (mostly off) for several years, my solo album is complete. The impending arrival and eventual birth of my son, Evan, really motivated me to get my ass in gear and finish this thing. This is not just a collection of random songs I've written - it is a concept album, complete with two acts and recurring musical/lyrical themes.
Since I don't really know much about recording music, it took a lot of trial and error using Sony Acid Pro and Cakewalk Sonar audio workstations to record and mix everything. For those of you interested, the instruments I used were as follows: - a Schecter Diamond series electric guitar, a Peavey Raptor electric guitar (best 34 bucks I've ever spent, thanks Koivu!), a Digitech RP-80 multi-effects pedal, an acoustic Ibanez guitar, and a Casio WK-3000 keyboard, from which you will hear all piano/synth sounds and all drum parts.. By far, the most challenging part was recording the vocals and getting them to sound halfway decent, but I think ultimately the mix turned out pretty well.
I'd like to thank my high school music teacher, Lou Manetta, for teaching me pretty much everything I know about music theory and analyzing/composing music. I'd also like to thank my brother Marc for providing me recording software, and for letting me commandeer his computer for prolonged recording sessions. Most importantly, I'd like to thank my wife, Kellie, for her support and encouragement to indulge the obsession I've had for the past year to complete this project.
I am very proud of the end result and hope you all enjoy as well. Thanks for listening!
